Transmission Spectroscopy

Transmission measurements can be used to determine the optical quality of thin films. It responds to processes that have large density of states, such as the absorption edges, and provides a measure of the bulk properties of the crystal. This technique is quick and non-destructive.

Here in Quantum Optoelectronics Laboratory, we are able to perform transmission measurement through UV-VIS-NIR ranges with a Varain Cary 5E UV-VIS-NIR dual-beam spectrometer with a scanning range between 175 nm to 3300 nm. Measurements between 77K and room temperature can be carried out by using a temperature-controlled Dewar.

Reflectance measurements are also available by using with a Variable Angle Specular Reflectance Accessory (VASRA).
